1.1 It is the policy of the Island Home Health Care to permit exempt employees who work more hours than regularly scheduled to receive compensatory time off.
2. POLICY:
2.1 To outline the terms, condition and benefits in Island Home Health Care for Public Holidays
3. DEFINITION:
3.1 The time off received by an employee who worked extra hours instead of receiving overtime pay.
4. PROCEDURE:
4.1 Recognition
4.1.1 Staff who have worked on Public Holidays, declared as such by the government for Private Organizations or on a weekly off will be entitles for a Compensatory off.
4.2 Eligibility and payment
4.2.1 This policy applies to IHHC full – time employees only
4.2.2 All employees must work to their normal working hours and record the hours on their Time Sheet in order to be eligible for a lieu day of 12 hours as compensatory leave.
4.2.3 An IHHC employee is also entitled for over time payment, if not availing it as compensatory off has to be availed within 90 days from the worked date, beyond which it will not ;be considered.
4.2.4 There is no limit for the number of compensatory leave granted.
4.3 Tracking
4.3.1 The HR Manager may decide for the Operational reasons, that staff will have the opinion to bank public holidays or time paid.
4.3.2 Any IHHC staff that is not normally scheduled to work on Public Holidays, but then works on a Public Holiday the Staff will still need to notify Human Resources in advance. With such notification the system will assume that the employee has taken or been paid for the Public Holiday.
4.4 Scheduling
4.4.1 Under the bank option of compensatory leave, it is the employee’s responsibility to incorporate the Public Holidays into their compensatory leave requests.
4.4.2 The compensatory off cannot be clubbed with the Annual leave or with the weekly off, unless on conditions approved by the HR Manager/Operation Manager.
